How TruthFinder Employees Use Background Checks For Personal Safety and Reconnection

As employees of TruthFinder, we’ve heard our fair share of crazy stories of reconnection, discovery, and close calls.

Here are some of the stories that our team shared with us to give a glimpse into how we use TruthFinder in our real lives to get to the bottom of who someone is and what’s in their past.

True stories from real TruthFinder employees as told to and by Ann F.

How My Dad Stopped A Real Estate Scammer Using TruthFinder

My dad had been trying to sell a condo and was talking with a real estate guy from out of state.

He had some concerns because the agent refused to get on a FaceTime® call with him to confirm his identity.

To prove he was who he claimed to be, he sent my dad a photo of himself holding his ID.

While this image may have fooled someone who’s less tech savvy, my dad didn’t trust that this image was legit, so he called me to confirm the guy was actually a real estate agent.

As soon as I saw the image, I had a hunch that this guy was a scammer.

Real image the AI-generated photo the scammer sent a TruthFinder employee's dad.

Actual photo scammers sent to try to confirm their identity.

It looked like it was AI-generated, and I immediately jumped into action to run a TruthFinder people lookup search on the supposed agent.

The results that came back were surprising. The agent’s name checked out as a real person who was licensed to sell real estate in Florida. Even though the name checked out, I still wasn’t satisfied that the photo was real.

I decided to run a Google® search of the agent, and that’s when things started to get interesting.

The Google images for the agent that were popping up looked nothing like the man in the photo.

The scammers had found a real agent who was retired and had been impersonating him while making fake real estate deals!

Luckily, my dad caught this scam in time before he shared any personal information with the scammers.

We were able to use TruthFinder to look up the actual real estate agent and let him know that people were using his name to try to run online scams.

I’m so grateful that my dad trusted his gut and called me to get more information before he fell victim to fraud.

How I Used TruthFinder To Confirm My Date Was A Pilot

I had met someone on a dating app, and he seemed like a nice guy.

We’d agreed to go on a date, and he offered to take me up for a short flight since he was a pilot.

While this sounded like a fun first date, I was a little nervous to get into an airplane with someone I’d just met and wanted to make sure he was who he claimed to be before I put my life in his hands!

Since I had a TruthFinder account through work, I ran a background check on him to make sure he really had his pilot's license.

I was relieved to find that he was telling the truth, and we had a pretty memorable first date up in the clouds!

Why I Use TruthFinder Before Every Online Date

I met someone online, and we’d been dating for about a month before I decided to run a TruthFinder background check on him.

There weren’t any wild red flags that made me decide to run a search; I just wanted to see if there was anything that was hiding in his past that I should know about.

That search led to a lot of new information about this person that I thought I knew.

It turns out that he’d lied about his age by four years and about having kids!

Pretty big omissions.

Not only had he lied about having kids, it turns out he was also in some legal trouble for falling behind on child support.

I swiftly ended that relationship, and now I ALWAYS run a background check before I go on dates.

Feels like I dodged a bullet, so I tell all my friends to double-check before going out with someone new.

Checking Out My Family’s Friends And Dates For Safety

My sister had been in a relationship with a guy for a while, and I wanted to make sure he was who he claimed to be.

I already met him, and he seemed like a nice guy. I just wanted to make sure that my sister wasn’t dating someone with a violent or criminal history. Gotta look out for family!

I searched him using my work TruthFinder account and was relieved to discover that the worst thing on his record was a speeding ticket.

I’m glad I looked him up, because it gave me peace of mind about my sister’s safety, and it only took a minute.

In case you’re wondering, they are happily married now, and he’s a great guy!

Using TruthFinder To Decode Group Texts

Image of a cell phone screen showing a group chat conversation.

I am notorious for not saving phone numbers, and group texts become confusing quickly because of all the random phone numbers responding in the comments.

I found that using TruthFinder to look up the phone numbers that I don’t know helps me keep my sanity when trying to figure out who’s who in group chats.

Nobody wants to be the guy asking who everyone is in the text thread, so this keeps the texts fun and filters out some of the noise.

How I Found Out My Neighbors Were Human Traffickers

Image of police crime scene tape in a neighborhood.

This might be the wildest story our team has heard about using TruthFinder to identify someone.

I found out that there were some weird accusations floating around my neighborhood after a woman had been seen acting erratically in the streets for a few days.

She seemed like she was in distress and kept claiming that the people in a house across the street from me were holding her possessions and involved in trafficking people.

My entire neighborhood was horrified that this young woman was seen wandering the streets, ranting and raving about these terrible deeds happening in our quiet community.

As an employee of TruthFinder, I have access to the site to run background checks and knew this was exactly what the tool was designed for.

I did a quick address search on the residence that the woman claimed was involved in human trafficking.

I was shocked to find that she was telling the truth!

I found that a few residents and their associates were actually on trial for federal human trafficking charges, and one of them had already been convicted.

If I hadn’t looked up the house, I would have just assumed that the woman was having a personal dispute and not thought much else of it.

I made sure to avoid that house and kept a close eye on it for suspicious activity after that.
